I'm making some worksheets to cover continent drift, plate tectonics, and seafloor/sea-floor/sea floor spreading. The problem is that that all three variations of seafloor seem to be in wide use and by some pretty authoritative sources (universities, research papers, etc.)

I am going to go with 'seafloor' because it is in fact a word and it is what NASA uses and NASA seems to be the most aware of style issues and how important it is to be consistant. So unless others object . . .

Does anybody know what Harry Hess or Robert Dietz used in their original papers (from the early 60s)?

I'm pretty sure it was "seafloor"...
